Day 3

Up, pack, train. Sharing a compartment with a guy called Michael. Excellent - he is a Polish geek. He's studying IT and role plays in the Warhammer universe. I teach him some English swearwords. He teaches me "curvo".

Journey uneventful. Lithuania looks bare - it's snow-covered fields and gently white hills. It's good scenery. Get to Vilnius, find my hostel. This is much better - there are people staying here and the rooms are warm. I get talking to an ex-teacher from the Netherlands and we go out for dinner. I have meat-stuffed dumplings. We find a pub and head back.

My bed is unbelievably annoying - it is too small for me, with a head and a footboard. I'm used to having my feet hang off the end of beds but being crammed up like this sucks. Still, I'd spent the evening chatting to this guy, my hostel was good and what little I'd seen on Vilnius looked promising. Go to bed looking forward to tomorrow.
